Regulating light and providing privacy within a partitioned office is important and this may be achieved using blinds and or window film.
Film application onto glass has developed hugely over the last few years, offering a wide range of options in an office environment.
- Solar Control
- Privacy
- Graphics
- Manifestation
- Safety / Security

At home, leisure, in the office or on the shop floor, Solar Heat Gain and Radiated Solar Glare can cause problems ranging from simple discomfort and eye strain to levels that are prohibited by Regulation.
Solar Control films reduce the effects of Solar Heat Gain and Glare and can substantially reduce air-conditioning costs working all year round to combat Solar Heat Gain and Glare yet allowing light to pass through.
Solar control window films are designed to filter out as much as 99.5% of harmful UV light, reflect infra-red heat and reduce visible light transmission whilst still allowing good light transmission.
Whilst no window film can completely eliminate the effects of fading through the solar spectrum, over 80% of UV, visible light and infra-red can be rejected by Llumar fade reduction window films. Solar energy enters buildings through ordinary glass windows as radiated heat, light, and glare.
Solar window films are able to reject a substantial percentage of solar heat and glare whilst allowing light to pass through, thereby helping provide thermal comfort as required by Health and Safety Legislation and glare reduction as required by Display Screen Equipment Legislation.
These Legislations arise from European Directive 89/654/EEC. The range of Llumar window films offer a choice of solar protection factors, combined with a wide spectrum of secondary characteristics such as fade protection, insulation performance, privacy performance, dual reflectivity and safety protection to European Standards, i.e. BS 6206 and UNI 7172. Also, solar heat and glare protection films generally have a minimum glare reduction of about 50%.
City Contract services Ltd have a wealth of experience in the design and application of all forms of window films, graphics and glass manifestations. The majority of our work is based on client commissions to exact specifications, a selection of past contracts are detailed below.
These samples give an indication of what can be done.
There is much debate regarding the application of regulations and rules regarding the safety and manifestation of glass. We strongly believe that the regulations should be correctly and vigorously applied. However we also feel that these regulations should be used with as much common sense as possible.
Where at all possible and without obligation we will be pleased to visit and advise on the application of the regulations and any possible options available.
The legislation states that glass should be safe enough to prevent serious injury through human impact. The regulation is part of the Workplace (Health and Safety) Regulation (14) but this is not the limit of the requirements. BS6262 and building regulation approved document 'N' define the "critical areas" where safety inspections or investigations will focus.
Safety glazing film (or anti-fragmentation film) is a proven and very cost effective solution to replacing glass that falls below standard.
These critical areas are defined as being any glass that is within 300 mm of a door and below 1500 mm. Any window or partition that falls (in any part) below 800 mm of the finished floor level.
These cases must be compliant with the impact resistant requirements of BS6206 and be made apparent with a suitable manifestation. It is important that glass is checked even if it has only recently been installed or the building refurbished. Each pane of glass must be individually and permanently marked as being compliant with BS6206
